Flounder Tournament

Mid-Late April, call for date

This ten day tournament started in 1990 when Captain Zed's Tackle Shop and the Wachapreague Marina held annual flounder tournaments bringing anglers in from all over to fish the Flounder Capital of the World. First prize is $2500 for each tourney.  The town comes alive for the spring run of flounder. Make your reservations early, the Inn fills up quickly.  

Maryland Saltwater Sport Fishing Tuna Tournament

third weekend in June

Three day tuna tournament in the canyons only 20-50 miles from the dock. Closest to the offshore hot spots.  

Fireman's Carnival

Last week of June and first 2 weeks of July

(Wed-Sat) Play bingo, ride the ferris wheel, enjoy a crabcake, oyster fritters and soft crab sandwiches. Live entertainment every night.  Face painting, cake booth, just like the 1950’s.

July 4 Parade and Party


See the mayor in his Uncle Sam Costume and decorate your golf cart or bike to march down Main Street. Enjoy a covered dish, town party at Seaside Park with live music and lots of games.

Eastern Shore Marlin Club Billfish Release Tournament


Marlin tournament includes a Captain’s meeting Thursday night, then fish two out of the three days (Fri, Sat, Sun). Awards dinner and auction Monday night at the Island House.

Chick Charter


Boat Captains donate their time to take the ladies fishing. Dinner and awards banquet.  Visit the scales to see what the girls caught.

Crabcake Cook-off


Great town party at Seaside Park with live music from Fast Eddy Nelson and his band.  Bring your best crabcake and apple pie for the competition and win a prize from Blue Crab Bay. Bill Savage is the 2016 reigning champ. Doris Normand took first place in 2015. Jim Etheridge won in 2014 and 2013.  Joe Altoff (from the General Store) won the first one in 2012.

Island House Oyster Roast


Enjoy live music and fresh oysters, both on the half shell and roasted over an open fire.  Auction items donated by local artisans.  2016’s roast raised $73,000 for the Navy Seal Foundation. Get your tickets early, it sells out quickly.

Redneck Romp

Saturday after thanksgiving

5K or 10 mile run through Wachapreague with a great after party serving venison chili. The trophies are clay pigeons with a bullet on top. The former race was the Seaside Half Marathon for over 20 years and when Vernon and Cathey Bell decided to pass the torch, the new race evolved. 

Christmas Caroling with Santa and Tree Lighting

First Friday in December

See Santa arrive on the fire engine, light the tree, have some cookies and cocoa, then sing carols all over town to the local residents.
