About Wachapreague

Wachapreague, Virginia, located 20 miles south of Chincoteague, 50 miles north of Virgina Beach, is a nature lovers paradise. Known primarily for their flounder fishing in the spring and offshore fishing in the summer, the area has even more to offer. Unspoiled, shell covered beaches directly in the migratory path for dozens of bird species. The numerous channels and bays protected from the ocean by uninhabited barrier islands create a habitat that is unique. Its not uncommon to see terrapin turtles, bald eagles, and seals, find your own clams and oysters, fill crab traps, catch minnows, and find whole sand dollars and conch shells. Small boats are common in the back water ways, however there is a deep channel leading to the ocean, used by the charter fleet to go offshore.
