WATCH – A – PREEE – GUH. The Algonquin Indians named us the “Little City by the Sea” although, today, it’s a small fishing town. By 1929, Wachapreague had 12 stores, 5 fishing companies, 4 oyster shucking plants, a bank, a movie theater, a service station, a pool hall, an ice plant, a barber shop (our 2 bedrm apts) and a huge 3 story hotel which was frequently visited by governors, film stars, royalty & former President Grover Cleveland.

Wachapreague’s best entertainment is the water, where you can experience unspoiled nature. Sunrises over the salt marsh are spectacular. Relax and watch the tide come in with rare migrating birds flying overhead. Bring your own boat and launch it at our town marina, or have DayTrippers arrange a charter trip where you can walk along the beach and find conch shells and sand dollars. Do some fishing – we are known as the Flounder Capital and our spring fishing season is off the hook. Rent a golf cart or a kayak. Cast a line off the boat dock and catch a variety of fish species. Go to our carnival in late June and early July, eat an oyster fritter, play bingo, listen to live music and kids laughing on the rides. Eat fresh seafood and have a cold drink out on the deck at the Island House Restaurant while you look at the saltmarsh lighting up at sunset, over a bald eagle’s nest. Sit at the bar and watch sporting events and listen to live music. Look at the stars at night. Unplug and reset and enjoy the peace and quiet. Watch a NASA rocket launch.

We have bagged ice, call us if the office is not open and we will let you know how to unlock our ice machine. We offer ice to fill the ice bucket in your room, and sell bags of ice for your cooler. Trident Tackle sells bait, but it’s a good idea to call them before you arrive, to be sure they have what you need 757-787-4242. Otherwise, Oceans East is south of us and Seahawk Sports Center is north of us, both on Rt13. Feel free to use the phone outside our office door 757-787-2105.

One thing we all love abt the shore is the opportunity to unplug -but sometimes, you just need to get online. We have great high speed internet in all of our accommodations and our WiFi password is posted in each room. Cell reception is fantastic on the water and towards the waterfront, but can be spotty in town. Feel free to use our office phone, outside the door, if needed.

Years ago, Trident Tackle had 16’ Carolina Skiffs for rent but the maintenance just got to be too much. But we have a superb team of boat captains with a variety of specialties to accommodate your group. Reach out to DayTrippers and we will arrange a beach taxi, scenic cruise, sunset or sunrise boat ride, or a fishing trip for you. 757-787-2105 or wachapreagueinn@mail.com.

Our firehouse still sounds a siren, but you need not be alarmed. We imagine all of the firemen also get a text message when called to duty? But it may remind you of a Fred Flintstone episode 😊

They visited once and absolutely fell in love with the tranquility of Wachapreague (as did we). So they decided to buy a house here, stayed here several times throughout the settlement process and are now our neighbors. They still shop in our store and have their visiting families stay with us. We hope you love it here too!
